Our planet is situated in a very limited band within the solar system where life is possible; five percent closer to the sun and we would have a run-away greenhouse effect like the planet Venus with temperatures reaching 900 degree Fahrenheit. Twenty percent further away from the sun and we would be covered with a cloud of carbon dioxide and become a frozen wasteland like the planet Mars. As a result of our position in the Solar System, we are also protected by large outer planets.

Job:4-6 [KJV] “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? hereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof”

Axial Tilt The moon stabilizes our planet and it its tilt and rotation; without it, no complex life would be possible on Earth.

Surface gravity If the surface gravitational pull were stronger only small forms of life would be possible. A weaker pull would allow our atmosphere to escape.

Thickness of the crust Plate tectonics play a major role in shaping the earth. The book “Rare Earth” has great detail about plate tectonics and continental drift.

Electromagnetic Force EMF holds the atom together; slightly weaker and the nuclei would not hold together, slightly stronger and heavier elements would not be possible. These forces do so much more and are in a perfect balance, chance? I think not.

Magnetic field Without our magnetic field, Earth would be bombarded cosmic radiation, and solar wind slowly scraping away the atmosphere.

When I hear unbeliever’s bloviate about creation being by the fad of the day rather than the Creator Romans 1:18-21 comes to mind “and their foolish heart was darkened” as does Job 40:2 “Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.”

I am in awe of the indisputable proof of design in this planet we call home. Statically we are unique and blessed to have our God designed home. Given what an awesome planet Earth is, one can only imagine the home Jesus has been working on for us these nearly two thousand years. 2 Corinthians 4:18 “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

According to Paul Davies “It seems as though somebody has fine-tuned nature’s number to make the Universe… The impression of design is overwhelming.” Mr. Davis is countered by Carl Sagan who basically calls our Earth a blue dot lost in a comic sea. Shakespeare might reply to Dr. Sagan, “There are more things In heaven and earth, Horatlo, Than are dreamt of In your philosophy."The universe is so vast that it seems rather intuitive that there would be complex life other than on planet earth, that indeed we occupy just a small blue dot in one of the numerous galaxies. However, we on earth are truly blessed as we do indeed live on the very unique Goldilocks planet. Truly “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” Psalm 19:1 [KJV] That said, God has not only provided us with a unique home, He has given us a front sear from which to observe our universe.

A few weeks ago we were treated to an eclipse whereby the sun was totally covered by the shadow of the moon. The moon is about 400 times smaller than the Sun and the sun is about 400 times as far away from the planet Earth as is the moon. Because of this perfect ratio during eclipse we see primarily the corona of the sun. The moon is not just present so we are treated to the beauty of an eclipse. The moon stabilizes our planet and it its tilt and rotation; without it, no complex life would be possible on Earth. Other critical factors include surface gravity, thickness of the crust, rotation period and magnetic field, a subject for another DQ.

Ours is the only location in the solar system where this observation would be possible. Our solar system is located within our galaxy not too far out on the spiral arms or too close to the center where we could fall into a black hole. We are so situated it within our galaxy that we have a clear window of sorts to the universe again it’s like a lens was formed just for us to observe all of God’s creation. To me this shouts Intelligent Design by God.

Romans 1:18 to the end of the chapter warns of not giving God the credit for His creation, suggested in this week’s lesson as “an intellectual property issue.” It seems that today we have stuck our collective thumbs in God’s eye once too. We can’t say we were not warned by Paul. Also starting with Job 38 God gives Job an extraordinary seminar and made it very clear to Job and to the reader of the Bible Who did it all.

Young Earth 501-1 - 2 - 8

Was there really a Big Bang from nothing to something? Is the Universe really 16 billion years old? Did our ancestors really swing through the trees? Did we really evolve from some primordial soup? Does the universe tend towards negative entropy as would be evidenced by lower forms of life evolving into higher forms violating the second law of thermodynamics? Is the fossil record that depends on the Geologic time scale correct? But does not the fossil record allow geologists to date and compare rocks across geological time?

Sounds like Circular Reasoning:
Strata are dated by the fossils
then....
Fossils are dated by the strata.

In my opinion, the whole concept of evolution just does not make sense other than Micro evolution within a species. Add to that the fraudulent attempts to create “the missing link” to prove evolution. Methods include the use of a tooth from an extinct pig, the jawbone of a modern ape filed and treated to make it look old. An old man suffering from arthritis and teeth were from an orangutan. Evolution is taught in schools and promoted as the true.

Why the resistance to Creation? If the universe was created then there would be a Creator to whom we would be accountable. I believe the universe was created by God as described in the Bible. The Bible is history written in advance and has been proven time and again. My God is an awesome God who stands outline time!

In his book “Learn the Bible in 24 Hours” Chuck Missler provides technical example after technical example of a Young Earth and a Young Universe. He also suggests the Gap Theory after the earth became without form between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. Lucifer rebelled and took a third of the angels with him and the earth became his domain. The fallen angels and the Nephilim, subject for next week. From Genesis 1:2 we read of God's plan of redemption.

Back to the Young Earth, several years ago I bought a DVD collection By Dr. Dino including “The Age of the Earth”, “The Garden of Eden” and more. There are images of petrified trees standing upright through geological strata. Fish fossils nicely laid out in rock so I guess these dead fish don’t float. Then there is Mt. St. Helene developing lots of strata in a few decades after it erupted.

There is so much about the age and properties of the universe in the Bible, to quote just a few:
Isaiah 64:1 says space can be torn
Psalm 102 says space can be worn out like a garment
Job 9:8 He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea

We live in a young earth created by God in six earth days. We did not descend from apes. Evolution is a false religion that has caused great harm.
