Let’s end this wonderful study of the Psalms with praise! Let everything Praise the Lord and that includes the musical instruments of David’s time.
Psalm 150:1, “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.”
Sanctuary, H6944, a sacred place or thing; consecrated, dedicated, hallowed, holiness
Many of the Psalms have been put to contemporary melodies; these I often listen to as I sleep.
The first lines of the Sanctuary Praise song:
“Lord prepare me, to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true
And with thanksgiving, I'll be a living, sanctuary, oh for you”
Psalm 150:2, “Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.”
I’ve been friends with a great guy who is caring, loyal, is a great cook, and knows car and home repairs. However, he is not on fire for Jesus and pretty much tolerates my enthusiastic love for Jesus. So much as I care for him, this is a bridge too far. 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”
Psalm 150:3, “Praise him with the sound of the trumpet (H7782) : praise him with the psaltery (H5035) and harp (H3658).”
Trumpet, H7782, a cornet or curved horn: - trumpet.
Psaltery, H5035 Brown-driver Briggs Definition: 2) harp, lute, guitar, musical instrument
Harp, H3658, to twang; a harp.
Someone pointed out that if you say the last names of our POTUS and VPOTUS it sounds almost like Trumpet.
Psalm 150:4, “Praise him with the timbrel (H8596) and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.”
Timbrel, H8596, to drum, that is, play on the tambourine.
Psalm 150:5, “Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.”
Cymbals, H6767, a clatter, whirring (of wings); a cricket; vibration); to tinkle, quiver, tingle.
Psalm 150:6, “Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”
As long as I have breath, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
What a joyful Psalm to end with. As I looked up the various instruments listed I remembered the rhythm bands of kindergarten. We would happily parade around the classroom making a joyous noise.
