BIB529-2 - 23 - 2 Prophetic utterances around the cross

The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross” – Fulfillment of Prophecy! Revisited
Several years ago Pastor Bruce talked about “The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross.” I found this very inspiring then and I still do today. In fact I was inspired to look into some of the prophecies that were fulfilled while Jesus hung on that cross.
# 1. Forgiveness: Luke 23:34, “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
Numbers 15:26, “And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.”
Psalm 22:18, “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”
#2. Salvation: Luke 23:43, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
Isaiah 40:3, “The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
#3. Relationship: John 19:26-27, “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home
Psalm 69:8 “I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.”
#4 Abandonment: Matthew 27:46, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Psalm 22:1, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?”
#5 Distress: John 19:28, “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.”
Psaml 69:20, “Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.”
#6 Reunion John 19:30, “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."
Psalm 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
#7 Triumph: Luke 23:46, “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”
Psalm 31:5, “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.”
Jesus was the ultimate propitiation before a righteous God as hinted at in Genesis 3:21, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins and clothed them.” God provided coats of skins for Adam and Eve but at the cost of blood. In the same way, we are covered by the blood of Jesus shed on that cross; we are justified before God.

Adam was a type of Christ 529-2 - 13 - 5

Who Created God?
“Every event has a cause.
The universe is an event.
Therefore, the universe has a cause. (And, of course, he said that cause was God).”
[Pastor Lutzer]
As a Christian I hold to the worldview is that our world is deliberate result of our Creator: Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning (H7225) God created (H1254) the heaven (H8064) and the earth (H776).
H7225 - the first, in place, time, order or rank (specifically a firstfruit): - beginning, chief first-fruits, first part, principal thing.
H1254 - to create; select, feed (as formative processes): - choose, create (creator), cut down, dispatch, do, make.
H8064 - to be lofty; the sky, aloft; alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve.
H776 - to be firm; the earth, a land, country, earth, field, ground, land, nations, wilderness, world.
Genesis 2:7, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
Adam was created by God as were the angels. God formed his body from the dust of the ground, but only by the breath of God did Adam become a living being.
Micah 5:2, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”
Jesus was not a creation of God but was from everlasting.
Genesis 2:21-22, “21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” God provided Adam with a helpmate, Eve.
Genesis 2:24, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” God created he marriage bond between Adam and Eve, a type of the relationship that exists between Christ and the Church.
Then came Satan. Eve was beguiled by Satan; however, Adam ate of the forbidden tree with full knowledge. Adam chose to join his bride in a hostile world suffering spiritual death, a foreshadowing of Jesus sacrificing his life on the cross for his bride, the Church.
Genesis 3:21 “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” In his concern for his creation, God sewed skins of animals for Adam and Eve to wear both to protect their bodies and to demonstrate that a blood sacrifice would be needed to redeem mankind.
Hebrews 2:9, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”
By giving up paradise for his wife, Adam was a type of Jesus who was the propitiation for his bride the Church: Philippians 2:8, “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

The four James of scripture 543 - 1 - 2

1. James, the son of Zebedee; brother of John known as the beloved disciple. The brothers were known as sons of thunder. He is commonly called James the Greater to distinguish him from James, the son of Alpheus, who is called James the Less. (James #2) He was the first martyred of the apostles by the order of Herod. His brother John was tortured but not martyred and lived to an old age and authored The Book of John,The Epistles of John and The Book of Revelation.
2. James, the son Alpheus (Alphaeus?), brother of Judas (not Iscariot). Rather confusing, Matthew 10:3, “Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;” During the Crucifixion, Mark 15:40, “There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;” Also, Matthew 27:56, “Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.”
3. James, the father of Judas, not of Iscariot who betrayed Jesus. And my confusion continues with Luke 6:16, “And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.” Act 1:13, “And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.”
4. James, the brother of Jesus who wrote The Epistle of James. There are several passages naming Jesus’ siblings including Mark 3:31, "There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him."
Matthew 13:55-56, "55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?" See also Mark 6:3
Joh 2:12, "After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days."
Mathew 12:46-47, “46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.”
Matthew 12:48, “But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?” Jesus said, “whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Mary of course knew who Jesus was, but His brothers and sisters likely were embarrassed by Him, Psalm 69:8, “I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.”
Jesus had siblings born to His mother Mary and step-father Joseph after the birth of Jesus. Catholics claim that the siblings of Jesus were His cousins. The Catholic doctrine cannot tolerate a no longer virgin, virgin Mary, a virgin Mary who is possibly to be elevated to co-creator. There have been several movies made concerning the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus but not one mention siblings. Very politically incorrect.
There were four James in scripture including the brother of Jesus who after the resurrection became a believer and wrote a book of the Bible, The Epistle of James

Jesus both Mashiach ben Joseph and Mashiach ben David 529-1 - 2 - 1

Israel is looking for two Messiahs: Mashiach ben Joseph and Mashiach ben David. After much suffering, Messiah ben Joseph eventually dies as a sacrifice of atonement and then ultimately rises from the dead. He is called the suffering Messiah. Mashiach ben David will ultimately appear and rule and reign from Jerusalem, a King David.
There was one Messiah. Jesus came first as the suffering servant, the Mashiach ben Joseph and will return as Mashiach ben David. One renounced rabbi may have sided with there being one Messiah.
“I have seen the Messiah! And I know who He is— I know His name. I know where He is. I know when He is coming. Furthermore, you will know these things as well— one year after my death. —Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri
The above is not an exact quote from the venerated late Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri; however, it paraphrases a collection of documented declarations he made in the final years and even the final days of his life.”
[The Rabbi Who Found Messiah: The Story of Yitzhak Kaduri and His Prophecies of the Endtime by Carl Gallups]
Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri died several years ago and left a note to be read one year after his death. The note is in code of sorts, but it has been argued that the rabbi said that the name of Messiah is Yehoshua. Yehoshua and Yeshua are, basically the same name, derived from the same Hebrew root of the word salvation translate directly to English as Joshua. Both the rabbi's son and grandson repudiated the possibility that the old Rabbi was referring to Jesus as the Messiah.
And so, the argument goes on, nevertheless Jesus cleared it up in Luke 4:18-19 by quoting in part from Isaiah 61:1-2, “1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn” Jesus stopped at the comma before “and the day of vengeance of our God.” That will be accomplished at the second coming of Jesus as the Mashiach ben David.
Psalm 40:6-7, “6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me.” Jesus was quoted by Paul as confirmation, Hebrews 10:6-7, “6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.”

Most assuredly, Jesus was the Mashiach ben Joseph and will return as the Mashiach ben David accompanied by his Church.

Psalm 2 includes the Trinity 526-1 - 8 - 4

Psalm 2:1-3 “1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”
Rage, “a verb meaning to be in commotion, to rage against. This word appears only in Psalm 2:1 where it denotes the uproar and plotting of the wicked against the righteous. The image of a gathering lynch mob conveys well the action suggested here.”
A vain thing, “A masculine noun meaning emptiness, vanity, a delusion. It is used with a prefixed le to mean, in vain, uselessly. It stands for an imagined plot or plan that is a delusion, vain or something that is worthless It refers to professed help that is useless, vain before the Lord. Figuratively, it describes Israel being treated in judgment as an empty vessel."
Imagining, “a feminine plural noun indicating a thought, a plan. It refers to the ideas, imaginations, desires produced by a person while alive. Reference made to Psalm 146:3-4, “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
[AMG International. Inc. Word Study]
I can almost see the Trinity in verses 1 and 2 scratching their collective head in amazement at what these foolish mortals plot in Verse 3. And the Lord is laughing, Psalm 2:4, “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”
Psalms 2:1-4 is very relevant today considering the extreme arrogance on the part of not only the former Obama administration but in the world in general as they attempt to marginalize God. Those in control have been warned by the Holy Spirit in Psalm 2:10-11.
Psalm 2:7-9 refer to the second in the Trinity, the son. Jesus has been given the heathens to the outermost part of the world.
Psalm 2:12, “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” A bit of a reach to the Holy Spirit, angry and wrath deal with rapid breathing and kindled, consume by fire.
In searching through several sources of commentaries concerning Psalms 2 I found this summary and downloaded the book:
"Contents: The psalm of the king; rejected, established and finally reigning. Characters: God, Christ, kings of earth. Conclusion: The kings of earth are ever setting themselves in array against God and His Annointed King, but in the day when He conies those who will not bend will be broken. Infinitely wise is he who yields his life to Jesus now and dreadful is the folly of those who continue in enmity to Him. ey Word: God's King, v. 6. Strong Verses: 8, 12. Striking Facts: v. 12. The yoke of Christ is intolerable to a graceless neck but to the sinner, saved by His precious blood, it is easy and light. Matt. 11:29."
[Brooks, Keith. Summarized Bible; complete summary of the Old Testament]
Imagine mere man thinking he can make war on our Almighty God. It would be truly laughable if it weren’t for the fact that man is doing just that. More every day we can see that so many leaders throughout the world are doing Satan’s bidding. We are a microcosm of the cosmic war between good and evil. That said, we know how it will end because we have the Book.

The responses of Simon and the woman that brought the ointment were very differient 531-1 - 7 - 4

Washing someone's feet is an act of self-effacement and a sign of respect.
When three supernatural beings called on the Patriarch Abraham he recognized them as such and didn’t hesitate, Genesis 18:4, “Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.” Abraham had a meal prepared for them and stood by respectfully while they ate.
Eons later John records that Jesus, the Word, washed the feet of the disciples. John 13:5, “After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.”
Simon the Pharisee invited Jesus to eat with him. A woman of poor reputation “began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.” Simon thought ill of Jesus for allowing Himself to be touched by such a woman. Luke 7:40, “And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.” Thus, the parable of the creditor who had two debtors.
Then Jesus said to Simon Luke 7:45-47, “45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.”
Fast forward to last Sunday. Pastor Bruce is taking a well-deserved vacation so Pastor Ken from Campers for Christ is filling in. Pastor Ken started telling a story from a book written by a woman who told of being totally frustrated with her husband.  Her husband was constantly away from home on business. He was a very successful but not the most sympathetic husband. She had a particularly frustrating day in which her children being normal children managed to get themselves very dirty. The woman was giving the children a bath when hubby came home. He immediately demanded, "Where's my dinner?"
Now where did I read that story as it sounded very familiar? Before she responded in kind the woman prayed for guidance. The shocking answer was “Wash his feet.” I then recognized the story. Pastor Ken said her name was Nancy but didn't remember the last name. Our church is informal so I called out Missler.
Pastor Ken went on to talk about Nancy's books and especially her book on Agape love. I completed Nancy's course, The Way of Agape, and remember her many entertaining and insightful stories.
As for me, I suspect I’m more like Simon as I tend to be judgmental, something I’m working on. Being prideful it would likely have taken a command from God to get me to wash my former husband’s feet. Perhaps if I had washed his feet….

God spoke to Mary, Zechariah and the shepherds while they were attending to their usual duties. 531-1 - 2 - 2

Zacharias was going about his Temple duties and tending the Golden Altar, the Altar of Incense, when the angel Gabriel visited him. Imagine his surprise when he was informed that his wife would give birth to a son who would Luke 1:17, "And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
John, the son of Zacharias and Elisabeth would go before the coming Messiah, Jesus. Zacharias was skeptical as his wife Elisabeth was barren and well up in years. Zacharias was struck dumb for the duration of Elisabeth’s pregnancy.
Mary was recently engaged and likely looking forward to her marriage. She also was skeptical when visited by the angel Gabriel as she was a virgin, nevertheless, she acquiesced, Luke 1:38, “And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”
Luke 2:8, "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night." The shepherds were visited by the angel Gabriel, Luke 2:10, "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."
The shepherds "said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us." Afterwards, Luke 2:20, "And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them."
A priest and his wife were to be the parents of the man who would “go before” Jesus. A village virgin in the line of David would be the mother of the coming Messiah.
Shepherds were the outcasts in Israel as their work made them ceremonially unclean. Per CM they were kept away from the temple weeks at a time. Lowly shepherds, not the religious leaders, welcomed Jesus into His incarnation.
All three fulfilled the charge Jesus later gave to the disciples in The Parable of the Ten Minas. A foretelling of what we have been given and are expected to do with it?
Luke 19:11, “And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.” Today as with these early believers, many believers rest on their “Blessed Assurance” rather than waging spiritual warfare. Luke 19:13, “And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy (G4231) till I come.”
Occupy, G4231, From G4229; to busy oneself with, that is, to trade: occupy. G4229, From G4238; a deed; by implication an affair; by extension an object (material): - business, matter, thing, work. Digging deeper, G4238 is a primary verb; to “practise”, that is, perform repeatedly or by implication to execute, accomplish, etc.; specifically to collect (dues), fare (personally): - commit, deeds, do, exact, keep, require, use arts.
This speaks to me as I have been given my salvation and I’m to occupy until Jesus comes for me,  I’m in the business of bringing people into the Kingdom.

Time to get my life in order!

I just have no patience with being sick however.....I have a cold that seems to be developing into bronchitis.  After overdoing it yesterday I paid last night and today. I'm running a slight fever and really coughing. I actually scared myself last night when I started choking and couldn't get my breath. I had an inhaler and my throat finally settled down. I found this rather humorist as I thought what if I pass on with three days worth of dirty dishes in the sink, overflowing onto the counter. The dirty dishes bothered me to the point I got up about one AM and washed them. Choking is a common occurrence with polio survivors so perhaps it's time to start taking a Z-pak.  My reaction reminded me again of how unpredictable life is.  The thought of dying doesn't bother me as I'll be with Jesus, however family and friends..., it is way pass time to get my earthly life in order.

IMO, long before I have to worry about choking to death, Jesus will come for his Church.  The really big question, are you ready?
