Genesis 3:7, “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”
It all started in the garden. Man tried to cover his sins by his own effort by creating covering.
Genesis 3:21, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
This was a demonstration of the requirement of blood sacrifice as an atonement for sin. This was a temporary atonement and had to be repeated again and again by the sacrifice of animals. A few thousands years later Jesus was the ultimate blood sacrifice and cried from the cross “It is finished.” We are covered by grace through the blood of Jesus if we place our trust in Him. No further blood sacrifices are required, just a reminder of our gratitude for our saving grace provided by Jesus.
Before addressing the issue of the purposes of offerings during the Millennium what of during the tribulation period. The third Temple is to be built/ rebuilt and the blood sacrifices started once more. The final and blasphemous blood offering will be a pig on the altar in the temple by the antichrist. After that will start the last 3 ½ years of the tribulation, the period known as both the great tribulation and the time of Jacob’s troubles.
In this time of Grace while the Church is still on the earth there is a tremendous outcry when there is any abuse of animals. With thanks to Facebook, this comment in a newspaper reflects the thinking of some who don’t associate the killing of animals with putting meat on the table. As offensive as some people find this, I can only imagine their reaction when animal sacrifices start up in the third Temple.
My understanding of the millennium is rather limited but I believe that Jews in the millennium will be followers of Yeshua/ Jesus. Just as blood sacrifices in history were looking forward to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, blood sacrifices during the millennium will be looking back in reverence to that sacrifice.
Perhaps blood sacrifices will have relevance for those born to Messianic Jews who survived the Tribulation. Tradition often persists possibly out of habit. That said, I really do not understand why there will be blood sacrifices in the millennium when to me celebrating the Lord’s Supper looks back to the sacrifice of Jesus.
