1) John the Baptist
2) The Works
3) The Father
4) The Scriptures
In my opinion, it is difficult to treat these for four witnesses as separate. John the Baptist was a witness to Jesus as the Lamb of God and as God’s chosen one. Luke writes of a voice that came down from heaven confirming Jesus as “His son.”
John 1:29, “The next day John saw
Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin
of the world!”
John 1:32-34, “Then John gave this testimony:
“I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. And I
myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will
baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen and I testify that this is
God’s Chosen One.”
Luke 3:22, “and the Holy Spirit
descended on him in bodily form
like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well
pleased.”
Jesus fulfilled more than 100
Messianic prophecies from the Old Testament. One of the most impressive is found
in the Book of Daniel 9:25, Jesus made his entrance into Jerusalem to the very
day predicted from the day Nehemiah was given permission to rebuild the walls of
Jerusalem.
ll Peter 1:19-21, “We also have the
prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay
attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and
the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must
understand that no prophecy of scripture came about by the prophet’s own
interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the
human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried
along by the Holy Spirit.”
The witness of Jesus as the Messiah
is just as relevant today as 2000 years ago and in the thousands of years of
prophecy before that. Jesus warned us again and again about false teachers. This
warning was reinforced in Ii Peter 2:1, “But there were false prophets also
among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily
shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and
bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
