Write a word study of the term “landmark.” What are the different ways that it is used in the Bible? How does this apply to your life? 515 - 5 - 1

It’s very interesting how some words are used in so many different ways in the Bible. I attend a Bible study on the book of Hebrews. A month or so ago, the leader did an in-depth study on the word rest. As for the term landmark, it seems to have to do with a boundary which can be an enclosure or set a limit and more. One associated word I found interesting was twisted which was related to Iniquity in another KI course.

As for how does this apply to my life, I used to set boundaries and often didn’t let most people into my little space. The closer I grow to my church family, the more I find the boundaries disappearing.

When it comes to many unbelievers, I have found that there definitely are boundaries not to be crossed. I get excited about my studies here at KI and I seem to offend some people by even mentioning them. So I smile sweetly and, so to speak, temporarily shake the dust from my sandals and move on.

With thanks to e-sword and Strongs:

Landmark:
H1366
גּבל    גּבוּל
gebûl  gebûl
gheb-ool', gheb-ool'
From H1379; properly a cord (as twisted), that is, (by implication) a boundary; by extension the territory inclosed: - border, bound, coast, X great, landmark, limit, quarter, space

H1367
גּבלה    גּבוּלה
gebûlâh  gebûlâh
gheb-oo-law', gheb-oo-law'
Feminine of H1366; a boundary, region: - border, bound, coast, landmark, place.
Deuteronomy 27:17, “Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.”

When Jacob was fleeing this father-in-law, Rachel had taken some of her father's idols. As I understand it, these were more than just pagan icons; they also established land boundaries.

Proverbs 23:10, “Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:”

Proverbs 22:28, “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.”

Next I checked boundary and twisted:
Boundary:
H658
אפס דּמּים
'ephes dammîym
eh'-fes dam-meem'
From H657 and the plural of H1818; boundary of blood drops; Ephes-Dammim, a place in Palestine: - Ephes-dammim.

H3381
ירד
yârad
yaw-rad'
A primitive root; to descend (literally to go downwards; or conventionally to a lower region, as the shore, a boundary, the enemy, etc.; or figuratively to fall); causatively to bring down (in all the above applications): -  X abundantly, bring down, carry down, cast down, (cause to) come (-ing) down, fall (down), get down, go (-ing) down (-ward), hang down, X indeed, let down, light (down), put down (off), (cause to, let) run down, sink, subdue, take down.

Twisted:

H8307
שׁרירוּת
sherîyrûth
sher-ee-rooth'
From H8324 in the sense of twisted, that is, firm; obstinacy: - imagination, lust.
H2256
חבל    חבל
chebel  chêbel
kheh'-bel, khay'-bel

From H2254; a rope (as twisted), especially a measuring line; by implication a district or inheritance (as measured); or a noose (as of cords); figuratively a company (as if tied together); also a throe (especially of parturition); also ruin: - band, coast, company, cord, country, destruction, line, lot, pain, pang, portion, region, rope, snare, sorrow, tackling.
