Yes, children who die go to heaven. Although children are born into a fallen race, I am of the opinion that they have a special dispensation. I base this on several quotations found in the Bible.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3 As I understand, poor in spirit would mean not having the spiritual arrogance of the Pharisees rather than having a lack of spirit. Such is the mind of a little child.
Jesus loved little children and having the innocence of spirit as children was important enough to Jesus to be quoted by several of His disciples.
- “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14
- “But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:14
- “But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God Luke" 18:16.”
Plus Jesus said “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. Matthew 18:14
I remember a story I read years ago that went something like this. A small child kept asking to be left alone with his newborn brother. The boy’s parents were concerned that perhaps it was sibling rivalry and that the little boy might hurt the baby. So they allowed the boy to be alone with the baby but listened at the door. The little boy asked the baby to please tell him what the voice of God sounded like as he was forgetting it. In my opinion, when we’re born or as a believer bordering on the edge of death, we have a special closeness to God.
